HISTORY AND RESEARCH

Whilst EFT is still a relatively new therapy the acupoints that EFT uses are not, these have been used in accupuncture for more than 3000 years and originated in China.

Tapping/EFT/Emotional Freedom Technique has been around since the 1970s when a Dr Callahan (a psychologist) became interested in Eastern health and practices that involved tapping on the acupoints/meridian points.

Dr Callahan was treating a lady for a water phobia so strong that she couldn’t even be near water. Mary had shown no real improvment using convential psychological methods, and she mentioned that the fear seemed to sit in her stomach. Dr Callahan had an extensive understanding of the meridian points so decided to try tapping on a specific point related to fear and worry (under the eye).  To his astonishment after tapping on the specific point, Mary announced that her fear appeared to have reduced dramatically.

Dr Callahan proceeded to do these sessions with Mary until the fear had diminshed so much she was able to get into a pool and Dr Callahan reported her fear was eliminated permanently.

Dr Callahan spent the next 10 years developing TFT (Thought Field Therapy) for specific issues.

In the 1990s, EFT was later developed by Gary Craig, a Stanford trained engineer based on his study of TFT.  Gary simplified TFT to the process we now know as EFT/Tapping.

Gary created what we now know as the EFT Basic Recipe. It can be applied to the same issues that TFT can but is so much more user friendly, and can be done by the client in between sessions/for minor triggers.

It is widely acknowledged that for more complex issues and to enhance efficiency, a trained EFT Practitioner is needed to lead you through your growth journey.

As an EFT practitioner, I do not recommend using EFT as an alternative to standard medical advice.  EFT is an effective tool to be used alongside any advice/medication given by your medical advisers.
